  • @edmyers I wasn't going to say anything… #
  • updating the iPad to the new shiny iOS 5.0. Apparently I'll know when the update is done because the iPad will float 4 inches off my desk. #
  • Well, instead of floating, the iPad sunk. Update to iOS 5.0 failed. Apple tells me I may need to update OSX first. Bass Ackwards. #
  • @brianlbaker An otherwise up-to-date version of Lion. And the iPad was up-to-date also. D/L the Lion updates now. #
  • And the iPad upgrade to iOS 5 #fails again! This time "the iPad software update server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable" #
  • @LiHuMa You, me and half the civilized world, apparently. http://t.co/YvmKJ71s #
  • @LiHuMa Yes it is. And it makes me a little bit happy inside when a big company has trouble anticipating demand just like me! #
  • Yippee! iPad update to iOS 5 worked on the 4th try. Look, tabbed browsing! And iCloud! Oh, my! #

  • @carlmalamud @freegovinfo Court opinions on FDsys a big step in right direction. Can't wait for public beta to see for myself. #DPLLA #
  • @carlmalamud Central location, signed by GPO, metadata in XML, consistent formats (hoping for XML/HTML like other FDsys material). #
  • “@zheller: A good argument for how over-exaggerated the power of Twitter is http://t.co/PceaOlMw” [Twitter is an echo chamber.] #
  • @carlmalamud Just PDF would disappoint. GPO signed PDFs would raise interesting questions about 'official' versions of opinions though. #
  • Creating ebooks requires a whole different way of thinking about text, and it is hard to get past our deeply ingrained concepts of "book". #
  • @sglassmeyer Absolutely! A real index would be nice, too. #
  • @johnpmayer Perhaps, but consider a syllabus or outline that refers to "page 8" of a book. That ref may mean nothing in an ebook context. #

  • Steve Jobs was one of those rare people who could see the future and wouldn't stop until he brought us there. #
  • iOS Developer Enterprise Program – Apple Developer http://t.co/blp0plAy [Allows orgs to get iOS Apps onto devices w/o going thru App Store.] #
  • Doc Searls Weblog · The journey was the reward http://t.co/Do2PdtRd [Best reflection on passing of Steve Jobs I've seen.] #
  • @KenHirsh @johnpmayer Lots of law already there, for example: http://t.co/rHBgODKr #
  • @johnpmayer @kenhirsh #HathiTrust isn't a public library, it's for scholarly research. A digital public law library would be different. #
  • @johnpmayer @kenhirsh And we do need a digital public law library. Unencumbered access to legal materials is necessary. #OccupyTheLaw #
  • @KenHirsh @johnpmayer @davidwhelan I think we tried that, DPLA passed. And focus of DPLA is kind of scholarly anyway. #
  • @KenHirsh Yes, @LIICornell is a good foundation, but their collection is small compared to vastness of legal info scattered about #DPLLA #
  • @KenHirsh Problem of lack of access is systemic. Many courts and legislatures don't see access as a problem. #DPLLA #
  • @KenHirsh Education is a big part. Show how increased levels of access are a good thing. Fedsys is a good model, lots of HTML. #DPLLA #
  • @kenhirsh Fedsys HTML can be collected, indexed, processed into other formats. It provides unencumbered access to the law. #DPLLA #
  • @KenHirsh Courts and states need to follow this lead. Even access to court opinions in original word processor files would be ok. #DPLLA #
  • @KenHirsh Good question. Core group would be a good start. MS Supreme Ct has opinions from 1996 to date in WordPerfect. #DPLLA #
  • @KenHirsh And cost is a big issue. really need to figure out what locating, collecting, indexing, sharing all that data costs. #DPLLA #
  • @richards1000 @kenhirsh FDsys is still running (today's FedReg – http://t.co/CcCLbbpd ) An excellent resource. #DPLLA #
  • Jobs: “Focus Is About Saying, No” | TechCrunch http://t.co/QJDhWpua #
